Job Summary: California State University, Fullerton is searching for a Research Analyst (Research Technician II). The Research Analyst (Research Technician II) should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the general direction of the Director for Institutional Research and Analytical Studies (IRAS), the Research Analyst will conduct data collection, analysis and visualization of highly complex data to support accreditation, student success, enrollment management, and decision-making processes. Generates reports for internal and external ad hoc requests while adhering to high professional standards of conduct. Works collaboratively with IRAS staff and scheduling staff and generates Academic Planning Database (APDB) and Enrollment Reporting System(ERS) extracts. Submits those extracts to the CSU System error reporting system. Posts the reports to relevant internal audiences. Analyzes and interprets mandated extracts like APDB and ERS, identifies data inconsistencies and develops solutions for their elimination that will lead to improvements in data quality through implementation. Analyzes the APDB extracts and other student enrollment database created in test environment to assess the effects of maintenance pack upgrades on the data integrity and quality. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications: Bachelors degree of the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field and two years of progressively responsible experience in technical research or statistical work in the collection, compilation, and analysis of data. Graduate-level study in the Social Sciences, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Public or Business Administration or Engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Additional experience demonstrating the acquisition and successful application of the required knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations, determining variables, developing bibliographical and other sources of data, and preparing reports. General knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including the methods of collecting statistical data, simple correlation methods, time series analyses, analysis of frequency series, sampling techniques, and construction of index numbers. General knowledge of sources of information on social, economic, and population trends in California. Ability to prepare questionnaires and other survey instruments. Ability to gather, compile, and analyze research data, as well as the ability to present data in tabular, graphic, and pictorial form. Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports. Ability to apply independent and creative thinking and writing skills to research and statistical problems. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of a small team.
