Summary: Berkeley Lab’s Facilities Division has an opening for a Demolition & Deconstruction Program Director. This position leads the Deactivation & Decommissioning (D&D) program at LBNL and reports to the Construction and Projects Office Department Head within the Construction and Projects Office (CPO) and is essential in delivering mission ready infrastructure for LBNL. In serving as the Program Director D&D this position is responsible for the development, implementation and management of the D&D Program at LBNL which includes the management, coordination, and administration of multiple, complex and competing large scale projects from the conceptual phase through planning, engineering, procurement, construction, start-up and close-out. Project size typically ranges from $50K to more than $100M; projects are of high visibility and risk for the Laboratory and are often conducted in congested areas. This position will oversee the demolition of several buildings in the Old Town complex with legacy radiologically and chemically contaminated facilities from the 1940’s, and will manage other D&D projects at LBNL as they are funded. The Program Director will also have direct supervisory and line management responsibility for CPO/PCO staff working on D&D projects. Critical to this role is expertise in the D&D, project management, risk management, final clearance of structures and remediation of soil as it pertains to radiological and hazardous material contaminants, and excellent communication and interface with stakeholders inside and outside the Laboratory. This position may serve in an advisory capacity to Senior Lab Management and to Department of Energy (DOE). May also participate in DOE Complex improvement initiatives. This position will be filled at the Demolition & Deconstruction Program Director level 3 or 4, dependent on experience.
