Job Requisition Number: 23888. The Communications Director – Capital Strategies - works directly with the Associate Vice Chancellor and senior management of Capital Strategies as well as senior professionals and managers to develop and execute communications programs for Capital Strategies. The Communications Director's management of departmental communication includes developing and executing the departmental communication strategy. Executing the strategy includes positioning, campaigns, marketing tools, graphic representations, presentations, and online content. The Communications Director serves as a resource to the directors and managers of the department and partners with the technology team to achieve communication objectives.
Manages complex comprehensive communications programs, including written, visual, and electronic communications for Capital Strategies (formerly “Real Estate”), a large, highly visible organization. Includes oversight of communications programs and products to assure inclusion and/or integration of Capital Strategies and/or campus strategic messages and goals. Works with departmental administration and capital project teams to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans. Provides advice and counsel to departmental administration and capital project teams on all aspects of communications, including strategic planning, effective messaging, and problem resolution. Produces a variety of communication pieces in a variety of venues including written, visual, and electronic communications. Ensures production of high quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints. Identifies specific communications needs related to organizational improvements and develops the content and process for those communications, differentiating when necessary between internal and external audiences. Works with the unit’s management team to build an organizational brand and create tools for positioning the organization strategically with the organization's clients. Those tools may be varied to reflect the unit within the organization while remaining within the Capital Strategies / VCF ‘family’. Gives presentations to various audiences, on campus and off, about work of the unit. Represents FS on committees and work groups. Develops grant or gift proposals, frequently for multi-million dollar awards, to support campus seismic retrofit work or other capital projects. Maintain the unit’s/University’s relationship with the granting agencies and when grant proposals are successful, support reporting to the granting agency. Coordinate with other campus units and clients to integrate their strategic messages with the messages of the Campus and that of Capital Strategies.•Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. •Advanced knowledge and understanding of technical applications to direct professional technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications. •Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education as well as planning, architecture/design, construction and facilities management. •Advanced skills to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communication plans. •Advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information. •Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. •Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills. •Thorough knowledge of campus protocols and channels for communication internally and externally. •Skill to maintain confidentiality.
