This is a temporary position. Work hours will vary and will include regular weekend and evening hours. Flexibility in shifts and hours as needed.
Studio Oversight and Maintenance- 65% Monitors the operation of instructional studios (including the metal shop, woodshop, plaster room, foundry, forge, glass, and jewelry/metal arts facilities). Repairs and maintains shop equipment as directed. Takes initiative to repair equipment, notifies supervisor of shop and studio needs. Cleans and organizes studio to impeccably maintain a safe and effective teaching and learning environment. Functionally supervises open studio hours, including work study and instructional assistants on duty. Follows protocol to direct students in emotional and/or physical distress to appropriate resources. Maintains the professional appearance of the college by providing a role model for ethical and safety standards. As directed, assists the academic programs with special events such as exhibitions, visiting artist lectures or residencies, orientations, open house, tours, etc. Helps train and supervise student shop monitors; Assists in follow-through of enforcing departmental and college procedures. As directed, delivers mandatory Safety Orientation and Safety Test for 3D courses, as directed. Responsible for notifying supervisor of unsafe studio practices. Monitors student competence using dangerous shop equipment and alerts supervisor of unsafe practices undertaken by faculty. Directs students in emotional and/or physical distress to appropriate resources. Maintains the professional appearance of the college by providing a role model for ethical and safety standards.
Academic Support - 30% Serves as an instructional resource. Provides technical assistance and support to the academic program. Reinforces studio best practices with students and faculty. Leads instruction by example in promoting a safe, professional, and nurturing learning environment for all faculty and students. Supports faculty teaching demonstrations and supports in studio courses as requested.
Administration - 5% Maintain shops page on the CCA portal, as requested. Aids in management of material inventory and supplies. Functionally supervise work-study and instructional assistants on duty during shift.
Additional Duties Offers technical oversight and back-up support for other CCA studios, including but not limited to sculpture, printmaking, backlot, and wood. Participates in institutional committees and program meetings; as assigned. Additional duties as required.
Education/Experience Must be able to demonstrate the experience and education required to perform duties described.
3+ years experience with studio tools such as but not limited to: table saw, band saw, sanding machines, routers, hand tools, welding tools, sewing machines, etc.
2+ years working in an university level academic making studio or similar.
Excellent attention to details, Excellent punctuality.
Working artist preferred.
Technical Knowledge Technical expertise in carpentry and basic construction expected, including working knowledge and skill with hand, power tools, some knowledge of digital fabrication, casting or welding is a plus.
Familiarity with a broad range of physical materials and proficiency in multiple approaches to making is expected. Knowledge of safety, health issues as they apply to artistic materials and regulations for safety will be needed.
Must possess a valid California driver's license.

Physical Requirements Ability to perform the physical work requiring manual dexterity, agility, strength and coordination to safely and effectively perform all of required duties, including ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
This job requires long periods of sitting, standing, or repetitive tasks.
