The Stanford Center on Longevity (SCL) is an independent research laboratory with the mission of redesigning long life. We seek to accelerate and implement scientific discoveries, technological advances, behavioral practices, and social norms so that century long lives are healthy and rewarding. Research shows clearly that education, exercise, nutritional habits, financial decisions, and social choices early in life have substantial implications for quality of life at advanced ages and, so we focus on the nature and development of the entire human lifespan. The Center is a catalyst for new ideas and perspectives in three important domains; cognitive fitness, physical fitness and financial security.
The Financial Analyst will perform complex financial functions requiring advanced knowledge and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems for Stanford Longevity Center. The Financial Analyst reports to the Associate Director of the Center.
In addition, the Financial Analyst will also manage and coordinate logistics for SCL events, develop documentation for SCL processes, manage the facilities and IT requirements for SCL and oversee HR recruiting processes.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform and design ad hoc analyses of large complex data sets and reconcile complex accounts. Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas.
Perform monthly review and reconciliation of expenditures, review and process transactions including expenditure allocations, process fund transfer requests, review and resolve outstanding commitments, update and adjust labor schedules, and process service center billing.
Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high-level summary of recommendations. Prepare monthly analyses of expenditures against annual budget and make recommendations for optimization. Analyze expenses and make projections to assist in the management of multi-year funding commitments. Assist the Associate Director to develop annual budget for the Institute and specific programs managed by SCL.
Conduct analysis and resolution, and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.
Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. May manage compliance program for area of responsibility, and create complex compliance reports.
Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties. Parse data at the Institute, program, or funding source level as needed.
Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives including preparing budget and expenditure scenarios for consideration. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.
Contribute to unit and organization strategy; assist in the development of change management plans and materials as needed.
Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for all areas of responsibility.
Define requirements, develop and implement complex test cases, perform system testing and analyze results.
Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Provide consulting advice to all SCL programs, staff, and faculty leading initiatives within SCL; serve as a resource on matters that require specific technical, financial, or subject matter expertise; support negotiations with external partners. May liaise with Dean of Research financial staff as needed.
May supervise, train, coach, and review the work of other staff, as needed. Contribute primarily through applying individual expertise.

Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree and four years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant accounting experience. Formal coursework and/or experience in accounting highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy. Ability to quickly learn to use new online financial tools and databases. Familiarity with Stanfords financial reporting systems a plus.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups. Ability to influence without authority is highly desirable.
Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.
Certifications and Licenses:
Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
