The Environmental Services Department provides comprehensive and innovative utility services for Sunnyvale's residents and businesses and facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. The department brings together technical, operational, and administrative professional disciplines to form its dedicated and dynamic team.
We are currently recruiting for the position of Environmental Engineering Coordinator to support the Sunnyvale Clean Water Program, the long term rebuild program for the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). For over 60 years, Sunnyvale’s WPCP has performed admirably 24/7 to support Sunnyvale residents. But now, some of the Plant’s components are reaching the end of their useful life.
The Plant handles waste treatment for the City of Sunnyvale residents and businesses. Much of the wastewater system’s aging infrastructure needs replacing. While age is the major driver for this replacement, other factors include the need for operational reliability, increased capacity, new regulations and innovative technology that will rebuild the system over the next 20-plus years. All these improvements encompass the Sunnyvale Clean Water Program, which is the City’s long-term capital improvement program to renovate the Plant through a series of projects and upgrades.
The Environmental Engineering Coordinator will provide support to the Clean Water Program.
Under the general direction of an Environmental Services Department Division Manager, Senior
Environmental Engineer, or WPCP Operations Manager performs professional environmental management duties in the office and field for the Environmental Services Department; reviews design documents and technical memoranda for operations and maintenance Implications, reviews construction schedules for impact to operations and coordinate shut-down requests; works with PW Department in sharing information related to WPCP operations and key technical information to help make design decisions and resolve construction conflicts.
