Salary and Benefits The salary range for this position is $5,211 to $6,729 a month. Starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget, and will not exceed $5,211 a month.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

Reporting to and under general supervision of the Lead Housing Operations Manager, the electrician is responsible for the full range of skilled journey-level electrical and related work including the installation, maintenance, modification and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems.
The Electrician is responsible for the full range of skilled journey-level electrical work including, but not limited to, the following major duties: - Assemble, install, maintain, modify and repair electrical apparatuses, equipment, and systems - Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments - Operate electrical power-generating plants and other electrical equipment and systems - Maintain and repair low voltage systems including fire, alarm and access systems - Test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency - Plan the layout and wiring of new or remodeled installations - Fabricate electrical parts - Advise in the selection and storage of electrical equipment - Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations - Inspect related work performed by contractors - Estimate cost, time and materials for electrical projects - Participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop - Clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties - Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures - Maintain a safe and clean work environment - Maintain and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems - Prepare standard reports and consult and work with other trades workers - Read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications - May provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants - Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations - Work closely with various trades to ensure that priorities and schedules are met and all work is completed safely and in accordance with campus standards - Communicate with customers to insure full understanding of any work requests - Participate in department training, and offer expertise in training sessions that are related to electrical safety

Sonoma State University consists of over 2 million square feet of building space of various construction types and ages. Duties take place mostly in various setting located at Sonoma State University including, but not limited to mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, attics, basements, and outdoor locations on the campus. This position will occasionally perform these duties in confined spaces, as well as high locations where ladders or man lifts are required. Some facilities are three stories high. The climate in some of the facilities can be cold, hot, and noisy. This work may be performed outside during cold, wet weather or in hot sunny weather. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.
The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday aligned with regular campus hours. Overtime, evenings, weekends, early mornings, holidays, and other non-standard times including working the University's commencement day(s) which are regularly scheduled for May, may be required and will be specified only by the Appropriate Administrator to meet operational needs and/or provide support for afterhours emergencies or repairs. As a non-exempt employee, any request for overtime will be specified and pre-approved by Appropriate Administrator. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator.
Qualifications This position requires a combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard electrician's apprenticeship program. The incumbent must possess thorough knowledge of electrical theory and the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electrical trade for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems; and a thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the National Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California. The incumbent must also be able to:
- Assemble, install, maintain and repair electrical apparatuses. - Operate all applicable tools and equipment necessary to perform skilled electrical work. - Read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications; make rough sketches. - Determine and estimate material and equipment needs, including cost and time, to complete tasks/jobs/responsibility in an efficient and effective manner. - Prepare standard reports. - Provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. - Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. - Be adaptable and flexible to adapt to changes, including but not limited to schedules, work assignments, and priorities, in fast-paced work environment while still being thorough in work. - Adjust schedule and work assignment to address urgent operational needs or scheduling conflicts. - Use stress management skills and exercise sound judgement on the job. - Balance workload and re-prioritize and re-organize as necessary to change approach/method to best fit situation. - Be organized and complete work in a timely manner to meet productivity standards, prioritizing, performing and managing multiple projects/tasks with competing goals efficiently and effectively; be service oriented and fiscally responsible; - Be resourceful and analyze situations to take appropriate action, including responding to emergencies. - Make timely decisions appropriate to level of responsibility and be able to clearly explain reasoning for decisions, in addition to including appropriate people in decision making process. - Maintain complex manual and/or computerized record-keeping system. - Accept constructive feedback and incorporate into work. - Perform day-to-day responsibilities with little or no direction. - Establish and maintain positive outlook and cooperative working relationships by encouraging open communication, maintain objectivity, and keep emotions under control. - Maintain a professional manner. - Commit to high work quality output without compromising deadlines. - Self-evaluate and make improvements or promote quality of work. - Work independently and within the framework of a team. - Work cooperatively in group situations and work actively to resolve conflicts. - Comply with defined work hours; maintain regular and acceptable punctuality and attendance. - Work in a safe manner when handling and working with chemicals and operating equipment. - Commit to high standards of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the university's safety policies and rules, reporting safety violations and potentially unsafe conditions to management. - Comply with university policies on harassment-free environment and non-discrimination. - Accept a diverse workforce and environment and provide outstanding customer service to a diverse population; students, staff, faculty, patrons, and other internal and external constituents. - Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships. - Must possess the ability to operationalize sustainability concepts (economy, society, environment) into all aspects of performing job duties. - Physically work in confined spaces, as well as high locations where ladders or man lifts are required; outside during cold wet weather or in hot sunny weather; frequently lift, carry, or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds; bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and use hands and fingers regularly; and successfully complete a pre-placement (physical) exam. - Must possess a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to maintain and operate.
