The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for academic year adjunct lecturers (fixed-term, non-tenure track) for the 2018-19 academic year. The department may be able to offer multiple positions. There may be multi-year positions available depending on funding. We are interested in applicants who can contribute to our lower-division curriculum. Teaching responsibilities may include calculus, for both science/engineering students and/or business students, introductory (non-calculus) probability and statistics, discrete mathematics, pre-calculus, mathematics for non-science majors, introductory programming or object-oriented programming. Candidates are not required to be able to teach all courses listed above. The course load will be seven courses over three 10-week academic quarters. An eleventh week is for final exams and exams must be held in that week.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should preferably have a Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a closely allied field. Otherwise, an M.S. in one of those fields with equivalent academic experience is sufficient. Candidates should have demonstrated experience of excellent teaching in mathematics.
1. Teaching (95%) a. Teach courses as assigned. The full-time teaching load for fixed-term Academic Year Adjunct Lecturers is seven courses. Teaching a course typically includes developing syllabi, assignments, and course schedule before the course begins; developing appropriate teaching preparations for each class meeting; conducting and appearing on-time for all scheduled class meetings; submitting course grades by quarterly deadlines; and administering all required course evaluations. b. Use appropriate measures of student performance, provide timely feedback to students, and assign grades that are an accurate and fair evaluation of student work; c. Post and maintain regular office hours at times reasonably convenient for students; d. Demonstrate a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively. e. Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline; f. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses; g. Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or the Chair of the Department.
2. Service (5%) a. Service at the department level including: attending faculty meetings or other appropriate department gatherings and participating constructively; serving on department committees; participating in student recruitment and retention activities as deemed appropriate by the department chair or department culture.
