USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering – Information Sciences Institute (VSoE/ISI) in Arlington, VA, is seeking a Research Programmer I to join its team.
This position will play a key role within a small project team carrying out cyber-security research focused on the public, enhanced attribution of malicious individuals engaged in nefarious cyber activities. Apply your technical and domain specific knowledge to design, develop, implement, and participate in test and evaluation of a software system that creates publicly releasable narratives informed by data collected using sensitive or classified sources and methods. Contribute to academic papers and technical communications to sponsors, collaborators and potential users, through writing and presentation.
This position will provide software development support to a research project. Develops and integrates technical capabilities written in Python, C/C++, Java, and/or integrated with structured/unstructured semantic web, ontology/knowledge bases, and other web based systems. Experience defining security policies and implementing security mechanisms in high assurance systems is desired.
Develops or modifies large and complex system projects or as a specialist provides technical consulting to researchers on complex projects. Interfaces with researchers to determine system requirements to support research, and prepares sufficient specifications to support integration in an effective manner. Utilizes creativity and innovation to solve conceptual programming problems raised by cutting edge research. Creates software systems, including all aspects of designs, coding, testing, debugging, and prototype documentation in a rapid prototyping environment with tight schedules and hard deadlines.
JOBQUALIFICATIONS ====== 1.) M.S. degree in Computer Science or a related field, or in unusual cases, a demonstrated track record of combined work experience and education as equivalent.
2.) Superior technical abilities in software design, coding, testing, debugging, and system evaluation.
3.) Demonstrated experience with the design and implementation of applications employing scalable database and/or web technology.
4.) Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision at a high level of technical proficiency on all phases of software development lifecycle
5.) Ability to interact with other project members in a positive and constructive manner to reach solutions to research problems.
6.) Qualified candidates for this position must be willing and eligible to apply for TS/SCI clearance. According to U.S. Government regulations, ONLY U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance. Current TS clearance is a plus.
