To support the growth of online learning at Azusa Pacific University, the Office of Innovative Teaching and Technology (ITT) seeks a creative and dynamic Instructional Designer (ID) who can design, build, and/or upgrade interactive online courses. The ID works with Subject Matter Experts (SME) from various schools to develop and maintain rich and relevant courses using various design and research-based instructional standards. This position requires strong knowledge of andragogy and instructional design, plus exceptional skill in developing and maintaining through, ongoing quality assurance processes. The ID may periodically support faculty training. Experience in educational technology management is a plus. This position will report to the Director of Online Learning.
Master's degree in Instructional Design and Technology, Educational Technology, or related degree.
3+ years of experience developing online learning environments or working in educational technology.
Experience in web-enhanced and web-based course development and support, including experience using a learning management system, digital media, mobile technologies, and other related technologies.
Knowledge of effective pedagogical/androgogical theories and instructional design methodologies for online learning.
Excellent oral communication and instructional writing skills.
Online teaching experience a plus.
Mobile learning experience a plus.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Works with SMEs to develop new and upgrade existing online courses and programs to meet research-based instructional design and compliance standards (e.g., ADA, FERPA, WASC, Quality Matters, OLC Quality Scorecards, etc.)
Performs various aspects of instructional design, including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) of instructional materials.
Collaborates with program chairs/directors to maintain online courses in APU's learning management system.
Provides technical support for faculty using multimedia, audio, video, and mobile technology.
Researches government and industry standards to assure that course designs are compliant with current requirements.
Researches and integrates instructional design, digital media, and mobile learning research and theory for the enhancement of online learning environments.
Conducts virtual and face-to-face training sessions for faculty.
Designs, develops, and implements training materials and job aids for faculty as needed.
Performs other related duties as directed by the supervisor.
Proficiency in developing interactive online learning environments.
Ability to develop and maintain quality assurance procedures
Proficiency in researching to stay current on government and university policies that affect online course design and programs
Proficiency in Google Apps Education
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong command of the English language.
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Proficiency in designing for mobile technologies (iOS and Android apps) a plus.
Graphic design skills a plus.
Ability to supervise others and delegate work appropriately.
