Assist the P. I. in designing, developing and modeling a Fourier Transform Spectrometer(FTS) for millimeter wavelengths. The FTS is required to test the performance of cryogenic bolometric sensors used for the POLARBEAR project. The FTS requires the design of wire grid beam splitters. which requires the design and construction of a grid winding machine.
Under the guidance of the P.I. assist with the development and analysis of the code to assess the performance of a grid winding machine, and Fourier transform spectrometer. Fabrication and design of a small radio telescope receiver.
B.S. Degree in Physics; or equivalent theoretical knowledge and experience.
Familiarity with Solidworks.
Familiarity with UNIX/Linux operating system.
Experience with optics, polarization measurements.
Background in physics, specifically in electromagnetic waves.
Must possess an understanding of polarization evolution in optical media.
Must be proficient at programming in Python and Radio Sky Pipe.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must have experience with safe handling of liquid cryogens, such as liquid nitrogen is required.
