The general job functions for the Senior Engineer position are to plan, organize, direct, and supervise planning, design, construction, water quality or water treatment related engineering activities of a section within an assigned division or department; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. The current opening is in the Construction section of the Engineering Department and the successful candidate will be responsible for bidding and award of construction contracts, submittal review, construction oversight, resolution of changes during construction, change order negotiation and public and regulatory agency coordination for construction of capital investments.
This is the advanced journey level in the Engineering series. The advanced journey level recognizes positions that perform full, first-line supervisory responsibilities, or significant specialized duties including planning, assigning, and evaluating the work of subordinates and are responsible for a program area within a work unit or department.
The successful candidate will be a key, contributing member of a highly collaborative team with a primary focus on administering construction contracts for the Pumping Plant Substation Rehabilitation, Randall Bold Water Treatment Plant Electrical Equipment Rehabilitation and Canal Replacement Segments 3 and 4. The candidate will also work on a variety of other projects including applicant projects, which include pipeline facilities for new development.
EDUCATION: Equivalent to the completion of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in professional civil engineering work related to water systems and facilities, including one year of lead responsibility.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Possession of Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
