The Construction Management Department enjoys a longstanding national reputation for excellence and innovation in construction management education. The Department's new head will enhance the vision and spirit of the department while embracing its successful culture and leading continuous improvement efforts. Student success and championing the Learn by Doing tradition of the university are paramount. The head furthers partnerships with alumni, collaborates closely with industry and the Central Coast community, and serves on the leadership team of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. The program's unique, integrated curricula require effective management of fiscal resources, human resources, and physical facilities, as well as fundraising for supplemental financial support. The head will be an active teacher-scholar who provides the leadership that will continue to distinguish the Construction Management Department as the premier program of its class.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
- Credentials appropriate for a tenure line position in the Construction Management Department, including a master's degree with extensive professional experience in construction management or closely related field or a doctorate in construction management or related field. - Relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry or comparable international experience and management experience in academia or in industry. - Relevant university teaching experience. - Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take a leadership role in the department. - Effective communicator who has the ability to further professionalism in a highly collaborative environment and the capacity to perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university level. - Evidence of collegiality, successful interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels and positions. - Evidence of having secured external funding.
- Professional certifications or licensures related to the construction industry. - A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a project management capacity. - Ability to teach in an integrated curriculum applied to a variety of construction building areas including but not limited to design management, jobsite management, residential, commercial, heavy civil, specialty, and/or facilities operations and maintenance. - Capable to advise/mentor/coach undergraduate construction management students, facilitate the development of undergraduate curriculum, and engage regional/national seminars, workshops, and committees. - Demonstrated success in securing and maintaining external funding. - Background in a construction related specialization; including but not limited to: building information modeling, integrated project delivery, lean construction, building services, sustainability. - A basic level of competency using computers in construction management software applications. - Ability to conduct independent research in an undergraduate program and publish research findings.
