Crossroads School seeks an innovative and dynamic Middle School Science Teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Crossroads offers a variety of opportunities and enriching activities for students from diverse backgrounds to engage in. At Crossroads, we strive to develop and nurture each child’s potential, while challenging them to inquire, observe, and think critically about the world around them.
The Middle School Science program works on a spiraling curriculum, and applicants must be comfortable with Earth, Life, and Physical sciences.The seventh grade science curriculum focuses on Ecology and Environmental science with a deeper investigation of biomes and energy transfer through ecosystems. Marine Science,Human Reproduction, and Forensic Science are other units of study. Textbooks are not used,instead Readers have been constructed to supplement the material taught throughout the year.
Applicants are expected to meet or exceed the following requirements/qualifications:
B.S. or B.A. in a scientific field
In-depth knowledge of the subject matter, including the Next Generation Science Standards
Provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment for students of all different backgrounds and learning styles
Experience with and an understanding of the unique characteristics of middle school students
The ability to develop, design, and modify science curriculum from year to year, with an emphasis on project and lab based learning
Comfortable with a variety of assessment styles
Experience or comfort with outdoor environmental education
A collaborative and flexible growth mindset
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
An understanding of and commitment to the Crossroads Philosophy
