Involves overseeing and/or managing activities relating to skilled crafts and trades, including one or more of the following: heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), boiler operators, electrical, machinist, sheet metal, abatement and insulators, structural (carpentry, painting, roofing, glazer, blinds), plumbing or other skilled crafts and trades.
Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction and supervision to skilled crafts and trades workers, according to established policies and management guidance. Examples of specialties Building Management Systems (BMS) that include, plumbing, boiler and chiller operations HVAC, server maintenance and electrical metering systems (SCADA) . Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff. Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provide priority setting and work flow analysis.
Management of campus wide building automation systems. Performs duties as the supervisor and technical team leader. Performs assignments that include a full range of operations: Provide both technical support and performance management of Physical Plant Building Management Systems (BMS) technicians. Consult with University and contractor project engineers on defining system wide performance criteria, system design specifications, control strategies, ITS security and smooth integration to existing BMS operating systems. Consult with the campus energy manager on energy reports and trend data collected from BMS automation. Prepare and develop detailed design packages for in-house construction projects as well as retrofits to existing facilities. Develop BMS project estimates and proposals for each of these projects. Develop and provide training and mentoring of BMS personnel in all BMS systems. Keep abreast and research new BMS system technologies to improve and enhance overall campus wide BMS performance. Prioritize BMS technician's tasks and take appropriate initiative as required to maintain schedules and set delivery milestones. Must have the ability to work well under pressure and successfully manage multiple projects at one time. Assume and perform other duties as assigned.
The BMS computing environment incorporates a wide range of mission critical platforms including but not limited to: Niagara AX Supervisor, Niagara Network, ION Enterprise SCADA Application and Intelligent Electrical Metering Devices. The BMS also utilizes campus LAN building network adapters, LON routers, switches, modems, gateways, repeaters and data bridges.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent years in experience / training.
Solid knowledge and skills in the specialty craft supervised.
Solid supervisory skills to include organization, scheduling, assigning work and ensuring quality standards are met.
Skills to actively promote and maintain safety standards.
Solid skills to effectively select and evaluate staff, and to appropriately handle disciplinary issues.
