The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a academic year adjunct lecturer (fixed-term, non-tenure track) position for the 2017-18 academic year. We are interested in applicants who can teach introductory courses in C++, object-oriented programming, and data structures. The course load will be six courses over three 10-week academic quarters. An eleventh week is for final exams and exams must be held in that week.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should preferably have a Ph.D. in computer science or a closely allied field. Otherwise, an M.S. in one of those fields with equivalent academic experience is sufficient. Candidates should have demonstrated experience of excellent teaching in mathematics.
1. Teaching (95%) a. Teach courses as assigned. Planning and teaching at least one course per quarter and up to six courses over the three quarters of the academic year in a manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively. Teaching a course typically includes developing syllabi, assignments, and course schedule before the course begins; 2. Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with assigned courses, including: a. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared way; b. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students; c. Holding regular weekly office hours on campus; d. Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline; e. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses; f. Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or the Chair of the Department.
2. Service (5%) a. Service at the department level including: attending faculty meetings or other appropriate department gatherings and participating constructively; serving on department committees; participating in student recruitment and retention activities as deemed appropriate by the department chair or department culture.
