The Department of Surgery is seeking a Specialist at the Junior, Assistant, Associate, or Full rank. Responsibilities entail investigating the cellular and molecular processes required for successful liver tissue engineering. Specific laboratory techniques he/she will perform include, and are not limited to, sterile cell culture, mouse hepatocyte and non-parenchymal cell isolation, matrix gel construction, maintenance of human stem cell lines, three-dimensional (3D) organoid culture, 3D bioprinting, maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, RNA purification, real-time quantitative reverse-transcription PCR, ELISA assays, immunohistochemistry, immunoblotting, as well as survival and non-survival mouse surgeries. The candidate must be willing to perform laboratory experiments and data analysis for ongoing projects in the lab, must be able to work well under the direction of the PI as well as independently, and willing to perform rodent experiments and work with human stem cells. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for basic lab/equipment maintenance, supplies ordering, and bookkeeping.
Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities). Specialists appointed at the Assistant/Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of experience in the relevant specialization. Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess a doctorate degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization. All requirements must be met at the time of hire. We prefer candidates who have public speaking skills and interest in opportunities to present at scientific meetings, as well as have good writing skills and the ability to draft papers and grants under PI’s guidance.
