As a DevOps engineer at Stanford Medicine, you will:
Develop and maintain local and cloud infrastructure and applications, using code whenever you can!
Have opportunities to take the lead on important infrastructure projects, with the support and collaboration of the team
Further automate local infrastructure operations with tools like Ansible and Puppet
Collaborate with the team and customers to develop/migrate and maintain important Stanford Medicine web applications on Google Cloud Platform
Architect Stanford Medicine's codified next-generation cloud infrastructure, working with technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and Hashicorp Terraform and Vault
You don't need to be experienced in DevOps, but should have the motivation and the foundational skills to become a good DevOps engineer.
You are passionate about programming and solving real business problems with code. As soon as a task becomes a routine, you are looking for a way to automate it.
You are constantly learning and practicing new ideas and tools in programming and web technology and are eager to put what you learn into practice at work.
You care about things being done the right way. You read up online and collaborate with co-workers to decide on and implement best practices and conventions. You're willing to go the extra mile to refactor your code to make it more logical.
You are a self-starter, constantly looking for opportunities to improve code and infrastructure.

Functional understanding of TCP/IP Networking and familiarity with Linux.
Past DevOps experience is desired but not required.
Past experiences in infrastructure tool development and maintenance is very helpful.
Solid understanding of distributed web application architecture is helpful
Good understanding of Linux internals very helpful.
Fluency in at least one modern high level programming language such as Python, or Go.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and programming tools.
Ability to solve repetitive business and infrastructure tasks with code.
Good understanding of software and infrastructure development life cycle and quality control practices.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and five year of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.
Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
Knowledge of application domain.
Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand.
Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
