About the Position: Cal State Fullerton's College of the Arts is distinguished by its fully-accredited department of Visual Arts. Fine arts, new media, and design programs provide quality learning to 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students within state of the art studios, classrooms, computer and design labs, and galleries. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Audio/Lighting Technician (Performing Arts Technician III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
The Performing Arts Technician III provides technical/specialist support for classes in audio and projections and for the Department of Theatre and Dance productions, practicum classes, showcases, special events, tours, and workshops. Trains and assist graduate students, student assistants, and student crew members who work in the areas of audio and projections for Department of Theatre and Dance productions. Assist students, in the set-up of all audio requirements (inclusive of audio equipment, production communication, distributed and assistive audio, computer applications, and electronic networked infrastructure), and for all preparation, recording, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, performances and strikes. Orders equipment and supplies and manages budget in conjunction with area faculty and Department Chair. In collaboration with other Performing Arts Technicians, maintains inventories and organization of audio, stage lighting, projections, special effects equipment and supplies in all performance, storage, theatre and classroom spaces. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or University in theatre, dance, music, or business with a minimum of two years of experience working for a theatre, repertory or stock company engaged in an applicable production specialty such as costume construction, stage and set construction, lighting production, or sound and audio production.
Thorough and specialized knowledge and experience in applicable production specialty. Advanced knowledge of design theory and principles with the ability to translate design specifications, blueprints or drawings into costume, scene, lighting or sound production and effects. Ability to independently manage production support projects and productions by breaking segments into working units that coincide with production needs. Ability to work on more complex projects and designs. Ability to work with more difficult materials and equipment, including the ability to select and use the most appropriate materials to meet production needs. Ability to use the more complex features of applicable software packages for the production specialty. Ability to plan the layout and use of work areas. Thorough knowledge of safety requirements and standards related to production support specialty and stage operations, as well as the ability to train others on safety measures to ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Comprehensive knowledge of historical periods for design and construction of materials and effects related to the applicable production specialty. Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize production and department needs. Possession of time management skills with the ability to determine priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced production environment. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and information related to performing support services. Possession of interpersonal communication skills, as well as knowledge of the materials and supplies related to curricular support and their uses. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work flow
