Stanford University, Department of Theater and Performance StudiesJCC 4054/Range A28 Responsibilities: This is a non-exempt bargaining unit role. Employees in this classification participate in and oversee the work of Costume Techs. They directly lead the work activities of costume techs on the job. They receive daily work schedules, and guidance in solving unusual or difficult problems which arise, from a production manager. Characteristic Duties:
Senior Costume Tech has all of the duties and qualifications described in the Costume Tech specification plus the following duties and qualifications:
Communicate goals and objectives from designers and supervisor to workers, keep designers and supervisor advised of work progress.
Assign and explain tasks to workers; Inspect work for conformance with specifications.
Train employees to meet quality and quantity standards.
Set up for dress rehearsals, tech rehearsals and shows. Attend dress rehearsals as necessary.
Promote adherence to safety rules.
Employees at this level do not have supervisory authority over other employees and are not expected to exercise independent judgment on final decisions regarding quality or quantity of work produced by such employees, or personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, discharge or disciplinary measures.
The typical schedule is 8am-4:30pm and may require overtime including some evenings, weekends and holidays. Qualifications: In addition to the qualifications required for the Costume Tech, the Senior Costume Tech classification requires the following demonstrated qualifications: Minimum Education and Experience Required: Five years' experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. Crafts, millinery and dance costuming and pattern making experience.
Expert costume or garment construction background. Expert pattern making and manipulation skills.
Expert sewing skills.
Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written) including ability to follow written and/or oral instructions
