Conduct large-scale rigorous analysis of scientific data about timely questions about US K-12 public education and efforts to improve it. Plan, develop, and implement the creation and advancement of web-based databases used to solve formal and practical problems arising from the management and analysis of scientific data.
Define novel computational approaches and analytical tools as required by research goals.
Propose new hypotheses and design experiments to test the hypotheses; develop new data models.
Compile and create educated summaries of the literature, discovering new facts by analyzing the collected data.
Participate in presentations and demonstrations of research at conferences or other institutions.
Create a variety of reports and user demonstration; collaborate with the users in the discovery of new knowledge.
Collect and analyze information from peer-reviewed scientific journals and through direct submissions; abstract data into the required format, and verify them for accuracy.
Constructively supervise or guide staff, as needed; schedule and assign workload; set appropriate deadlines; review work for quality, timeliness and accuracy.
ADDITIONAL CORE DUTIES*:
Execute research projects using best in class analytic methods under budget and time constraints.
Prepare technical and non-technical reports to present analysis and findings to a range of stakeholders; manage interactions with policy makers, legislators, funders, and the media to explain the work.
Analyze complex research data using statistical analytic program, STATA.
* Other duties may also be assigned.
Education and Experience:
Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Public Policy or Education Doctorate in scientific field and three years of relevant experience or combination of relevant experience. Relevant experience may include quantitative policy research, evaluation experience and experience with the statistical analytic program, STATA.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong analytical skills.
Demonstrated experience with data development, data integration, and statistics.
Strong written and oral English communication skills.
Computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to understand scientific literature, experimental procedures and their limitations, and current needs of the research community.
STRONGLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated mastery of statistical analytic program, STATA.
Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping.
Occasionally stand, walk, and write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
