Develop, maintain and enhance innovative systems that foster environmental stewardship, fiscal responsibility and integrated design, space planning and sustainability approaches within the university community and stakeholders.
Time: Full time
Manage existing sustainability efforts and identify/research potential new, cost-effective, sustainability opportunities for the University.
Manage a team of student workers and/or Sustainability Interns and work with them to
Manage waste and recycling programs to be cost effective and improve waste diversion
Develop, promote, and implement campus sustainability programs and events.
Teach/educate members of the campus community on issues regarding sustainability and to encourage the adoption of behaviors that will promote a sustainable society
Oversee University’s community garden
Maintain and update University’s sustainability website and social media platforms
Collect and empty recycling bins and complete office tasks as required. Coordinate pick up and collection cycles for waste and recycle bins
Provide safety training for student employees
Manage utility program including monitoring and analyzing electricity, water and gas and cost data and making program recommendations
Manage and report progress and participation in the Second Nature Carbon Commitment (previously ACUPCC).
Provide administrative support and guidance to the University’s Sustainability Advisory Board.
Partner with stakeholders and community members including students, faculty, staff, city programs, and local universities to develop new sustainability programs and initiatives
As needed, share University’s progress and accomplishments in sustainability through public presentations to audiences ranging from students to corporations.
Identify and participate in various local, state, and national sustainability recognition programs.
Advise Director of Campus Facilities & Sustainability on current local, national, and global sustainability and environmental issues
Collaboratively develop a repository of University space utilization standards for faculty and staff
Collaboratively develop a repository of University design standards and options for faculty and staff
Develop University furniture procurement and inventory control standards
Serve as a university-wide consultant and liaison for university design standards, practices and cohesiveness on all university construction and remodel based projects
Work with internal stakeholders and external professionals in the design and furniture industry to establish and maintain of a furniture resource library
Develop, draw, design, and analyze space utilization plans as part of the bid and feasibility process on all potential university projects
Collaborate with outside professionals on all University building and remodel projects
Perform general administrative work and other responsibilities as requested.
Bachelor's degree required. Environmental Science, Art, Design or related discipline and experience in large-scale design; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Considerable knowledge of institutional design theory and practice as related to sustainable practices and approaches. Considerable knowledge of purchasing and accounting policy and principles. Considerable knowledge of building and state laws and regulations, health, safety and fire codes and ADA law and regulations.
Two years experience in sustainability program support or management in a similar field of work, preferred.
Five years of design and space planning work, preferably in the University setting preferred.
Experience working on mid to large scale university based construction and/or remodel projects
Must have an understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of the university.
Must have a strong service orientation and commitment to exceptional customer service
Requires strong computer skills.
Must have the ability to track and manage budgets.
Must have the ability to supervise and motivate student staff.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience in utility analysis and projection preferred.
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, e-mail and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
