THE PRINCIPAL CIVIL ENGINEER is an advanced journey-level classification which requires a degree in Civil Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (PE). The successful candidate will be expected to perform responsible, difficult, professional engineering work and/or plan, direct, and coordinate engineering activities relating to City public works engineering and private development projects; enforce Federal, State, and local regulations and codes; serve as Engineering Design/Construction section manager; and perform other related duties, as assigned.
Four years of progressively responsible experience in difficult and complex public works engineering.
Equivalent to a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer from the State of California, or registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in another state and the ability to obtain California registration within six (6) months of employment.
