Applied Mathematics - Tenure-Track Assistant Teaching Professor (Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment)

The School of Natural Sciences at UC Merced (http://naturalsciences.ucmerced.edu) invites applications for a Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (LPSOE) in Applied Mathematics (http://appliedmath.ucmerced.edu) starting July 1, 2019. An LPSOE position closely parallels that of an Assistant Professor on track for tenure, but with greater emphasis on undergraduate education. Successful candidate is expected to be actively engaged in the applied mathematics academic program as well as work with the teacher preparation focused CalTeach program (http://calteach.ucmerced.edu).
We are seeking an outstanding teacher, who wishes to have a permanent, full-time instructional position. This position will involve: • Teaching applied mathematics courses, with emphasis on lower-division courses, as well as related courses in mathematics education and pedagogy for the CalTeach program; • Engaging in curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, and other scholarly activities; • Training teaching assistants; • Coordinating various aspects of the undergraduate instructional program; • Participating in education-related committees, student recruitment and outreach, and engaging in efforts to secure extramural funding for educational program development.
Qualified candidates must have: • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education or a related field; • Teaching experience at the college or university level • Demonstrated excellence in teaching; • Experience with mentoring teaching assistants and/or other teacher-training programs; • Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.
