The Physics Assistant aids in the provision of radiation therapy services to patients in an outpatient clinic. This position will perform technical physics support tasks, including but not limited to patient-specific QA for IMRT, VMAT, and SBRT treatments, maintenance of physics equipment, maintenance of the physics manual library, and other duties as assigned. This individual will construct custom shielding devices for radiation treatments and perform Medical Physics Training. Also, this position will provide research support by scheduling machine use time for PIs and operate machine in conjunction with PI for radiation of small animals or cells.-Physics engineering background preferred.-Experience with electronic devices preferred. . -Experience with or able to learn, radiation safety requirements for and safety features of radiation treatment and imaging systems. -Proficient in operation of radiation therapy treatment and imaging units.-Experience with or able to learn, Radiographic nomenclature/terminology. -Experience with or able to learn, Diacor block cutting system. . -Experience with basic computer programs. -Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with medical staff, other hospital employees, and patients.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT-Must be able to work variable schedule as needed.-THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
