Involves providing strategic and long range planning for the programming, design, development and disposition of properties and facilities, including buildings, infrastructure and landscape projects; research, collect and analyze planning data to develop planning policies and procedures, project planning, design and program guidelines; compliance with environmental planning regulations and architectural design review.
Under the direction of the Director of Campus Planning, the Senior Environmental Planner has responsibility for implementing the environmental planning activities for Physical & Environmental Planning, which is a unit within Physical Planning, Development & Operations (PPDO). This is accomplished through the successful completion of tasks and assignments associated with campus land use as related to environmental planning, regulations and compliance, and in the context of community and regional planning efforts. The Senior Environmental Planner conducts professional-level environmental planning by reviewing and assisting with the preparation of environmental documents and planning associated with campus plans and studies, area plans and studies, participating in the revision of campus Long-Range Development Plans, conducting environmental planning research and maintaining data, working collaboratively with others to ensure environmental compliance for development projects, and representing the campus and its interests in its relationships with public jurisdictions, public agencies, and community groups. The incumbent may supervise associate planners, assistant planners, and student assistants the performance of assigned duties.
Physical & Environmental Planning, a unit of Physical Planning, Development & Operations (PPDO), supports the UC Santa Cruz academic vision by managing and overseeing all physical and environmental planning efforts required to successfully support campus development plans, master plans, area plans, and construction projects. Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor- PPDO, Physical & Environmental Planning ensures planning efforts contribute to and support campus life by creating visually pleasing, functional, and sustainable infrastructure and facilities that are sensitive and responsive to the surrounding natural landscape. We collaborate with other campus departments to facilitate and realize programmatic, or operational needs when building or altering facilities.
Bachelor's degree in related area and or equivalent experience and or training.
Advanced knowledge and skills associated with environmental planning principles as related to urban planning, biology, archaeology, geology, hydrology, or other planning-related or environmental field.
Extensive knowledge of and experience with the California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act including preparation of compliance documents.
Extensive knowledge of environmental stewardship principles and the influence of development on natural systems.
Thorough knowledge of regulations of state and federal regulatory agencies as they relate to campus planning and development and experience working with them. Agencies include but are not limited to the California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, State Historic Preservation Office, the California Coastal Commission, the California Dept. of Forestry and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.
Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus
