Stanford's Science and Engineering Quad (SEQ) comprises an 8-acre site consisting of four buildings with over 600,000 sf of workspace and an inner courtyard, providing state of the art facilities for research and teaching and extensive community gathering spaces. These modern facilities enable Stanford scientists and engineers to collaborate in a showcase setting that minimizes environmental impacts.
The School of Engineering seeks a Science and Engineering Quad Operations Manager to provide leadership to the building managers who are entrusted with the care of the SEQ buildings. Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations and Safety, this position is essential to supporting the multiple schools and departments that occupy the SEQ. You will lead your team to provide support to a hundreds of diverse clients and perform work across the spectrum of facilities management duties. As a collaborator, you will have a keen understanding of the function of the SEQ and will work with other support organizations in the Stanford community, such as Land, Buildings and Real Estate, Public Safety and Environmental Health and Safety. We need someone with ideas on how to develop and strengthen the team, organize work processes for efficiency, and evaluate and expand services.
Ensuring the proper function and good appearance of assigned facilities, scheduling and assigning work to direct reports, and coordinating with Stanford staff both inside and outside of the SoE, subcontractors, and/or vendors.
Mentoring staff; hiring and evaluating the performance of direct reports, forecasting department or division staffing needs.
Clarifying and resolving problems spanning multiple areas or technical fields and developing programs within assigned facilities. Writing policies, procedures or other documentation as needed.
Conceiving of and/or monitoring projects; ensuring integration with larger unit goals.
Identifying, advocating for and implementing projects or process improvements.
Partnering with the SEQ Services/Contact Center Manager for communications and when facilities are used for conference purposes.
Flexibility in completing any other assigned duties.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
A bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience.
Experience running facilities operations and directing maintenance staff in an environment with a variety of building types (administrative offices, classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, dining facilities, auditoriums, etc.).
Knowledge of the norms of the facilities management profession including preventative maintenance activities, construction project management and security.
Familiarity with Stanford systems such as FIMS, iSpace, Lenel, property management and Oracle financial.
Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance.
Proven ability to work with others and communicate effectively.
