About the Job:
The primary purpose of the Internal Communications Coordinator is to enhance awareness and acceptance of UC Merced as an employer of choice. Secondary to that, the incumbent uses evidence-based practices to shape the UC Merced experience for faculty, students and staff by promoting a culture of inquiry, discovery and learning. The individual in this role helps to develop and implement initiatives to engage and align employees with UC Merced's vision, mission, values and goals, paying close attention to those that can be modified and applied to faculty, staff and student audiences. The ability to balance short-term needs with long-term strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment is critical to the success of the university's internal communications efforts. As such, the Internal Communications Coordinator must be comfortable collaborating with colleagues at all levels across campus, throughout the system and in the Office of the President.
Key Responsibilities: - CONTENT CREATION/MANAGEMENT: Identifies, leverages and repurposes compelling feature stories and news articles to increase employee engagement and education, and to support university priorities, across multiple channels. - STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS: Forge and maintain strong relationships with colleagues across the university and its sister campuses. - REPUTATION MANAGEMENT: Supports internal brand-building and alignment. Ensures internal communications activities support public and community relations objectives. - CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS: Actively partners with colleagues to incorporate the employee perspective in crisis communications planning and preparedness.

Bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Public Relations, Marketing or related area and 3 year of progressively related experience or 7 years of equivalent related experience, education and training.
Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation.
Thorough knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines.
Thorough skills to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and/or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the location's message.
Thorough knowledge of the location, including its mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure, programs, and policies.
Thorough knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field and /or health sciences.
Knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and/or web production.
