About the Job: Under the general direction of the Director of Operations/Chief of Staff of the Office of Research and Economic Development, the Department Research Administrator will work directly with and provides support to faculty in the administration of extramural research funding, providing first level guidance for compliance on federal, state and institutional levels on pre- and post-award research administrative matters. Maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. Receives assignments on project basis and fully analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutions. Completes and approves transactions and escalate to appropriate official when needed. Works on complex proposals that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub awards.
Pre-Award: Assists departmental faculty/PI in the development and preparation of grant and contract proposals. Ensures all applications meet agency and university guidelines and published time tables and deadlines, including management of the Just-In-Time process. Assists the PI in the development of budgets and budget justifications which includes reviewing the budget for inconsistencies and ensuring accuracy.
Post-Award: Manages post-award activities using knowledge of grant and contract management rules and regulations, technical expertise, and analytical skills. Post-award activities include regular review, reconciliation, and projection of award finances, preparing adjustments and corrections to award budgets, preparing financial reports, and at the end of the award, ensuring all financial requirements have been met, and closing out the award.
Bachelor's degree in related area and 3 years of directly related experience or 7 years of related equivalent experience/training.
Requires independent judgment and strong organization and communication skills and customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
Requires thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
Ability to translate technical/scientific concepts into a fundable proposal.
Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting, preferred.
Thoroughly knowledgeable in applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, et cetera, preferred.
