The Department of Design at California State University, Sacramento is housed in the College of Arts & Letters. The programs comprising the Department of Design instruct students in areas of technical and aesthetic expertise, broaden their understanding of the history and theory of design, as well as ground students in the variety of cultural and professional practices necessary to be an effective photographer, interior architect, or graphic designer.
The teaching of lecture and studio classes with a concentration on interior architectural design and professional practice. Instruction responsibilities will include up to 30 units per academic year and will include instructionally-related activities. Instructional assignments, which will be made by your department chair and college dean, may include offering courses off-campus, at a distance using technology (e.g., satellite, Web), and/or in non-traditional schedule formats (e.g., evening, weekend, and condensed time frames). You will be expected to maintain a minimum of three (3) office hours each week for advising and assisting students who may wish to see you outside the classroom. There will be no additional required tasks such as student advising, course scheduling, or other administrative activities.
Master of Architecture (M.ARCH), Master of Interior Architecture (M.I.A.) or Master of Arts (M.A.) or Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Interior Architecture or Interior Design.
Special Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of architectural design methods, principles, practices and processes, as demonstrated by your academic or professional work and/or your students' work.
Experience with professional practice and an ability to teach courses related to interior construction, material and system selection, as well as professional obligations, and building codes.
Demonstrated knowledge of architectural graphics needed for design presentation and construction documentation.
College or university level teaching experience in studio and lecture courses.
Experience working with students and colleagues of diverse backgrounds and experiences in a team-based environment.
Demonstrated ability to incorporate diverse users' needs, values, & experiences into professional architectural practice.
The appointment for this lecturer, non-tenure track position will be for a three (3) year term. This full-time temporary appointment, which is not a probationary position, will terminate at the end of the 2021/22 academic year and does not establish consideration for subsequent appointments or any further appointment rights. However, this lectureship may be renewed annually dependent upon satisfactory performance, curricular needs, student enrollment and budget consideration.
