This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position.This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Under the immediate supervision of the Parking Operations Manager, the purpose of the position is to coordinate multiple parking related functions to ensure the day-to-day operations of parking operations and services are successful. The Parking Sergeant will provide lead work direction and supervision of 6 Parking Officers to provide training and ensure daily responsibilities and objectives are met. The Parking Sergeant is responsible for problem solving issues that relate to Luke II pay stations, AutoVu Patroller and T2 systems as relates to enforcement and operations.
The incumbent shall work varied shifts and patrol the campus on foot, on bike or by vehicle to ensure parking rules and regulations are followed. The incumbent shall work independently while issuing parking citations and responding to calls for service. The incumbent is required to work special events during which there will be work coordination with other personnel. The incumbent will be responsible for the coordination of smaller events and act as a backup to special event supervision as needed. The incumbent will be required to work weekends, nights, extended shift periods, overtime and holidays that coincide with special events or during an emergency callout. Typical shifts reflect a 5-8.5 hour or 4-10.5 hour schedule. The incumbent is expected to provide lead work direction, training and coordination of others in day to day duties and special events.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,100 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,790 - $4,902 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Entry to the second level within this classification requires high school level reading, writing and mathematical abilities and possession of a California Driver’s License. The nature of the duties may also require successful completion of a background check. Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn how to use applicable parking-related equipment and automated systems is essential. High school diploma or equivalent plus three to six months related experience would normally achieve these entry qualifications. Traffic Control Certification or the ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and have repetitive arm movement for long periods of time and exposure to car and flare fumes.
The incumbent is required to know all parking rules and regulations of the University; have the ability to generate reports, interpret stats and enter information into the parking software program, and the ability to work in RIMS. Must be able to effectively train on safe and efficient towing practices and all practices in general.
Prefer a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. accredited college or university, (a bachelors in Criminal Justice or Public Administration is preferred).
Prefer at least 2-5 years’ experience working in parking enforcement in a university or educational setting.
At least 2-4 years’ experience in coordination and developing action plans for large special events.
Have a demonstrated ability in overseeing numerous employees within one’s organization and of differing agencies.
Have the demonstrated ability to lead others and train them effectively.
Prefer a strong writing ability and previous experience in the construction of training materials and operational manuals.
