The ideal candidate for this role uses skills as an established engineering professional in mechanical and/or biomolecular engineering to develop systems for biomolecular-related research. Works with principal investigators to model, design and prototype system construction. Collaborates with other research staff on projects, including reporting and presentation of findings. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The incumbent is a professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice to complete substantive assignments, projects, and tasks. They work independently and possess the job knowledge to analyze problems/issues and determine solutions.
The project the candidate will be supporting combines advances in comparative genomics and cerebral organoid models of primate brain development with biocompatible materials, chemical and electrical sensors, microfluidics, and optogenetic control of neuronal activity to learn how brains are made and how to harness the power of neural circuits.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Bio molecular Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with CAD platforms (Autodesk/Dessault / Geomatics/or equivalent).
Experience with Finite Element Methods platforms (COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS or equivalent).
Rapid-prototyping experience, which includes taking an idea into CAD design and to physical print, with ability to measure and quantify accuracy and to make relevant edits to the design.
Experience with 3D printing principles and methods in order to independently perform 3D model engineering design work of limited scope and complexity.
