Stanford University's LBRE Application Solutions group has an opening for a Data Architect. This is a new position joining a stellar team of technology professionals that support the growing needs of our business units. We support the Land, Buildings and Real Estate (LBRE) organization at Stanford for their technology solution needs.
What Would You Do? You will be working with the Associate Director of Technology, to establish the new frontiers of data analysis, data management and standards across the various data sources at LBRE. A newly established within our organization, the data architect will be instrumental in establishing technologies, standards, processes and architecture for data, to influence business decisions. In addition to advocating for the benefit, the data architect will collaborate with developers and analysts in the application solutions group as well as business units for defining the LBRE data landscape.

Engineer robust and extensible Data architecture for analytical solutions at Stanford's LBRE organization.
Lead and perform the design, development, implementation and maintenance of complex Data systems and data-intensive solutions that are scalable, optimized, and fault-tolerant.
Define and develop guidelines, standards, and processes to ensure data quality and integrity.
Elicit, review, and validate data system requirements, including data integration, Metadata, and modeling. Design the data architecture and data integration layers.
Design Data systems that are scalable, optimized and fault-tolerant.
Work closely with business analysts, IT professional and project managers to understand their data requirements for existing and future projects involving data -big and small.
Develop technical strategies for improving the quality of reporting data
Develop, test, implement, and maintain database management applications. Optimize and tune the system, perform software review and maintenance to ensure that data design elements are reusable, repeatable and robust.
Contribute to setting strategy and standards through data architecture and implementation, leveraging data, analytics tools and technologies.
Work with IT and data owners to understand the types of data collected in various databases and data warehouses helping maintain their integrity and security.
Research and suggest new toolsets/methods to improve data ingestion, storage, and data access.
Ensure effective integration and security of applications, data, and components to deliver a high quality system capable of supporting real-time data production and complex, data-intensive user analysis.
Use software development best practices to develop prototypes, proof of concepts for the selected solutions, and ensure effective application and integration.
May oversee the work of others.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in scientific or analytic field and eight years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced level knowledge of relational, NoSQL, or NewSQL database systems, and data modeling, structured and unstructured.
Advanced level knowledge in scripting languages, expertise with high performance/systems languages and techniques.
Demonstrated ability to review business processes and translate into BI reporting and analysis solutions.
In-depth knowledge of and ability using analytical and business intelligence programs such as OBIEE, business objects, Informatica, Tableau, Matlab, SAS, R, SPSS etc.
Extensive experience in data analysis and root cause analysis and proven problem solving and analytical thinking capabilities.
Experience using and designing key data structures, algorithms and techniques pertinent to systems that support high volume, variety datasets including data mining, machine learning, NLP, data retrieval.
Demonstrated ability with enterprise application and database driven applications.
Substantial experience with relational and dimensional logical data modeling.
Experience in benchmark software development and programmable fields/systems, ability to analyze systems and data pipelines and propose solutions that leverage emerging technologies.
Expertise architecting and deploying reliable data systems and data quality management systems.
Ability to use and integrate security controls for web applications, mobile platforms, and backend systems.
Extensive experience in the evaluation, design, and deployment of new tools, frameworks, and patterns to build scalable data platforms.
Ability to document use cases, solutions and recommendations;
Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills
Excellent project management skills and ability to understand and apply systems for storing and analyzing datasets.
Expert level of understanding of Data Access Design and Query execution internals across different technologies, Indexing techniques, Text and Image search, Recommendation Systems, is a plus.
Ability to mentor, motivate and provide guidance to staff on precise tasks.
