Department: STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS - 061024 Department Description: Strategic Communications provides comprehensive and coordinated campus leadership in developing, planning, creating and implementing strategic communications programs based on the department's goals and objectives. The department works across all media to foster increased awareness, understanding and support of UC Davis' mission, vision, accomplishments, impacts and needs among its many internal and external constituencies. It serves as the official voice of UC Davis to regional, state, national and internal news media. Strategic Communications encompasses six units: Visual Communications, News and Media Relations, Web Communications, Social Media, Brand Management and Marketing, and Undergraduate Admissions Marketing. Strategic Communications' multimedia storytellers, writers, social media practitioners, designers, web developers, information architects, and search engine experts have a mission to communicate university messages through interactive media. We coordinate these communications across platforms to reach our audiences. Our efforts can be seen on ucddavis.edu, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other sites and channels.

Job Summary: Under general direction of the Director of Social Media, develop, coordinate and support a presence for the Chancellor and Provost on website and social media channels (which may include a blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and similar vehicles). Track incoming feedback and messages and create reports that track metrics. Support strategic projects and planning. Work closely with the Office of the Chancellor and other key stakeholders to ensure cohesion between the Chancellor's communications and presentations.
Physical Demands: Sit at computer for extended periods of time. Lift objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment: Work flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends to respond to operational needs.
Travel to events, both on and off campus, as needed to promote Chancellor and Provost social media presences.
Occasional travel to attend meetings, conferences and events including occasional overnight travel.
May require restricted vacation plans from April through June, and September through October.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, journalism or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Writing, editing and proofreading skills, including proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence construction and formatting styles to clearly and effectively communicate ideas and information across a variety of digital and social media platforms.
Knowledge and experience with all aspects of social media communications including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications to create, develop, and implement long and short-term strategic communication plans.
Experience developing and working with social media channels, especially Web-based tools such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs, used for informing, engaging and mobilizing individuals.
Experience defining, tracking, and reporting on social media performance indicators.
Knowledge of graphic design best practices and principles for both print and web projects.
Experience using interpersonal, communication and public relation skills to develop and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and to effectively communicate complex and technical theory and information in an understandable manner through blogs and other web media to diverse audiences.
Experience meeting tight deadlines and balancing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, with minimal supervision, and coordinating the work of contributors with attention to detail, while completing projects with excellence.
Knowledge of and skill to understand current and emerging social media channels.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional-level experience in online journalism, marketing or social media.
Experience to work collaboratively and productively with diverse groups of individuals at all levels within a complex organization, often with wide differences of opinion.
Experience utilizing ethical search engine optimization techniques to increase visibility and traffic.
Experience working with web usability using HTML and CSS.
Experience creating and identifying quality social media content related to a variety of academic and research topics.
Experience with metrics that measure the impact/effectiveness of social media programs and reporting results to clients.
