Exercises judgment within defined limits and practices to determine most effective methodology to acquire common goods and services. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
Under general supervision of the Assistant Business Manager, the Procurement Specialist is responsible for the procurement of materials, equipment, and services for maintenance, administrative, capital improvement and alteration projects as required by the Physical Plant Services staff. The position requires liaisons with staff whose classifications range from clerical through management levels. In this role, the Procurement assistant exercises significant independent judgment in the interpretation and administration of complex regulations and policies for all purchasing transactions. This individual has delegated authority from the Campus Purchasing Unit to procure common goods. The individual will process orders for restricted goods and services but the Campus Buyer performs the award of the Purchase Order. The Procurement Specialist is a member of the Physical Plant and represents the Physical Plant in all interactions with the campus, auditors, and with vendors, quality is to be the #1 priority.
The Physical Plant Service Center provides fiscal and budgetary management for the campus facilities units, this including implementation and administration of complex policies and procedures. The Service Center annually reviews and processes approximately 12,000 documents, totaling approximately $45 million.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Analytical skills necessary to evaluate the quality and cost effectiveness of purchasing options.
Ability to read and interpret terms and conditions of basic contracts.
Working level of proficiency in the use of standard spreadsheet and word processing software.
Some knowledge of the organization's departments and operations required in order to meet their procurement needs.
