Under direction of the Cardiac EP (Electrophysiology) Medical Director and Division Chief of Cardiology, the Nurse Practitioner III will function as an independent clinician member of the Cardiac Electrophysiology service managing cardiac patients. The incumbent will function with independence and decision-making responsibility under the general direction and guidance of the EP Medical Director, as well as in accordance with established clinical protocols. The incumbent will perform duties and responsibilities in the lead/advanced operational level. The incumbent will be assigned continuing responsibility for leading a group of cardiac fellows, chief residents, visiting fellows and/or visiting professors on the basis of their advanced academic specialization and clinical expertise. The incumbent will evaluate EP patients alone in the outpatient clinic and will also assist the EP physicians. Additionally, the incumbent will independently run a clinic for pre- and post-management of EP patients. The incumbent will conduct in-depth interviews with patient and/or family, construct comprehensive medical histories, perform initial and periodic medical exams, evaluate patients signs and/or symptoms, directly perform or order diagnostic studies and interpret completed results, and develop and implement long- and short-range treatment plans. The incumbent will also provide patient counseling and follow-up care independently. The incumbent will provide, monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided to EP patients. The incumbent will be assigned to more complex cases in the Division of Cardiology which require the use of advanced skills and greater independence than is the case at the Nurse Practitioner II level. The incumbent will triage patients who may require EP intervention. This may include, but not limited to, seeing an urgent EP patient independently, initiating screening and diagnostic procedures, evaluating results of clinical findings and laboratory tests, performing urgent pre-op history and physical examination, collaborating with attending physicians, cardiology fellows, or residents in order to provide high quality of immediate care for complicated EP patients. The incumbent will also provide in-depth clinical consultation to a variety of healthcare professionals. The incumbent will also participate in education activities not only for patients and/or family, but also for all levels of staff, residents, fellows, and/or other Nurse practitioners and students. The incumbent will plan and present staff in-service education and will participate in project or program planning for EP patients. The incumbent will also assist in establishing clinical pathways and/or protocols for EP patients in outpatient (pre- and post-op) and inpatient settings. The incumbent will also do daily rounds independently or with fellows or attending physicians.
