The Theater Arts Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Costume Design for Performance. Applicants should be able to teach a range of courses including Introduction and Advanced Costume Design, Costume History and Construction, and Introduction to Design (all areas). We have a preference for candidates with expertise in design for digital performance and sustainable design practices. Possible related areas of research and teaching might include history and theory, theater management, and world performance design for diverse cultures.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, contribute service to the department, Arts Division and university at large, and maintain a professional practice as research. The ability to contribute significantly to graduate education and the mentoring of graduate students is highly desirable. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing women and minorities who are underrepresented in higher education careers (as evidenced by life experiences and educational background), and who have experience in equity and diversity with respect to teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
