The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) is one of four Governor Gray Davis Institutes for Science and Innovation established in 2000 to ensure the future of the California economy by promoting research and innovation. QB3 is a cooperative effort between the state of California, private industry, venture capital, and the University of California campuses at Berkeley, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz.
QB3 harnesses the quantitative sciences of physics and engineering to unify our understanding of biological systems at all levels of complexity, from atoms and molecules to cells, tissues, and entire living organisms. Involves the management, long-range planning, organization, coordination, oversight and/or performance of multiple operational activities and services for one or more buildings, including space planning, general maintenance, call center triage and tracking of repair services, move planning and coordination, development of procedures, policies and communications related to infrastructure and safety.
Serves as liaison with campus and external agencies regarding safety, access, maintenance, remodeling and construction activities.
Recommends facilities-related procedures and solutions, taking into account budgets, space allocation, staffing and infrastructure design.
Develops space allocation plans for management review.
Coordinates work crew activities to minimize disruption to building occupants.
Maintains building related plans and procedures including access controls and security, emergency preparedness, crime prevention activities, fire safety inspection compliance and reporting. May serve as 'Department Access Key Controller' as defined by the UCPD Campus Access Control Policy.
Assists department leadership with budget development for moves and minor building infra-structure upgrades.
Coordinates emergency repairs during and after work hours.
Coordinates with multiple units throughout campus to provide a safe and secure facilities environment.
Miscellaneous duties: Coordinates, monitors and tracks all maintenance, custodial, grounds, and other service requests of Facilities Services and outside vendors, including tracking completion of maintenance work and the ongoing status of individual service requests. Serve as primary contact for building occupants for repairs, preventive, deferred and custodial maintenance. Diagnose complaints. Conducts regular periodic rounds to inspect areas for security, fire and accident hazards and takes appropriate action as required, including reporting infractions of fire and building codes, building rules and other building irregularities to management. Coordinates and carries out department signage, display, and promotional needs. Rotating weekly responsibility for 24/7 phone response to building alarms and facility related problems. Assists management in development of annual facilities budget. Other systems and/or duties for which the successful candidate will be responsible include: serving as backup Building Coordinator; maintaining and adjusting the lighting control systems; liaison with IS&T for data and voice networks; operation of Liquid Nitrogen and pressurized CO2 distribution system; operation of the water purification system; updating and maintaining the electronic directory; coordinating with and assisting building occupants for access and utility interruptions both within and outside the building; overseeing the conference room reservation system and assisting with meeting setups and A/V assistance; development and maintenance of the online building user manual; coordinating special cleaning tasks; serve as central point of contact in matters related to appropriate use and maintenance of public areas for safety and security, modifications to public areas, signage posting and posting of notices and procedures for facility use and operation; assist with preparation of annual FDX and periodic functional use surveys; and other tasks as assigned. Participate in professional training and development opportunities as appropriate. Serve as backup to the Health & Safety Specialist with such responsibilities as safety issues, spills, accident investigations, building evacuations, etc.
Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Thorough knowledge in the areas of building Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing/Building Automation, space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, campus and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
Strong interpersonal skills including good service orientation and effective problem solving.
Thorough and effective skills to multi-task and prioritize daily activities effectively.
Skills to work both independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of architectural or engineering concepts.
Able to read and interpret plans, specifications, submittals and air balance reports.
Skilled in AutoCAD and MS Office.
Salary & Benefits
Annual Salary Range: $60,800.00 - $116,200.00
