Baskin School of Engineering Facilities (BSOE Facilities) is responsible for administration and maintenance of all physical space for the School including research and instructional labs, service centers, common use space and faculty, staff and student offices. As of January 2019, BSOE utilizes physical space of approximately 179,000 assigned square feet (asf) in eight separate buildings on the main UCSC campus, at the 2300 Delaware Research Park on the West Side of Santa Cruz. BSOE also has programs and utilizes physical space at the UC Santa Cruz Silicon Valley Campus located on Bowers Avenue in Santa Clara where facilities operations are handled by the UCSC Office of Research. Under general direction of the BSOE facilities operations manager, the facilities assistant provides the operational support for the facilities group in the Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE). The position is responsible for the implementation of specialized minor facilities projects and work orders as assigned. Building infrastructure work and construction actives are done by UCSC Physical Planning Design and Operations (PPDO). Following office layouts worked out by the Operations Manager and others, this position will move, install, and/or change large and small offices and laboratories. Make repairs/changes to furniture and equipment as requested, typically using vendor supplied parts but sometimes fabricating as necessary, using and working with tooling, various structure support and campus shops. Position is also responsible for minor changes to local use lines for inert gas, air, vacuum and water. Position will also investigate and conduct minor maintenance of some lab support equipment to include ice makers, freezers, lab dishwashers, local point of use RO/DI water systems and other laboratory equipment. Position will provide support for special events and may at times augment custodial services of the campus. Position will provide support to the BSOE equipment manager for inventory control. Position may at times need to travel to locations off the main UCSC campus such as 2300 Delaware Ave and the Coastal Sciences Campus on west side of Santa Cruz and very infrequently to UCSC Silicon Valley Campus.
