The intellectual heart of UC Berkeley, the College of Letters & Science (L&S) is the largest of the university's 14 colleges and schools and the most prestigious teaching and research unit in the UC system. L&S encompasses more than half of the campus's faculty, three-quarters of its undergraduate students, and half of its Ph.D. candidates.
The L&S Facilities Office to serve the College of Letters & Science with new construction, maintenance and operations services and support.
Under close supervision, incumbent performs basic repairs and preventative maintenance of scientific equipment commonly used in biology labs. Prioritizes incoming work orders as per departmental policies. Manages time and plans jobs to achieve recharge financial goals.
Documents labor and material usage for recharge reports. Maintains shop and shop equipment in serviceable and safe condition. Maintains shop inventory.
Assist LSFO with miscellaneous operational tasks (equipment moves, equipment installations, material pick-up and delivery) as requested.
Develops equipment repair skills through direct instruction from supervisor and other online training and resources
Basic mechanical and low-voltage electrical repair experience.
Ability to work with a high degree of precision and manual dexterity.
Experience using power, hand and bench tools such as drills and soldering irons
Demonstrated organizational and decision-making abilities to prioritize competing work assignments in order to meet deadlines and adherence to quality standards.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
Ability to troubleshoot and conduct component level repair of PC boards, machine interfaces, etc.

This is an hourly paid, stepped rate position within the range of $18.59 (step 1.0) - $21.89 (5.0)
