This position is in the engineering team within the Water Resources and Civil Infrastructure Group (WRCI), Sustainability & Energy Management, in the Land, Buildings and Real Estate Department, reporting to the Associate Director - Engineering in the Group. The engineering team consists of five engineers and an engineering technician. The engineering team works closely with the water quality, efficiency and stewardship team staff, the water shop supervisor and technicians, financial/business administrator, the construction inspector, and the Director of the Group. The WRCI Group is responsible for operation and maintenance of the water distribution, storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems, roads, creeks, bridges and dams, with an institutional long-term perspective and focus on sustainability. The water distribution systems include domestic (potable), lake (for irrigation) and recycled water. The Stanford civil infrastructure systems are comparable in size and complexity to those of a medium size city or district. Preservation of reliability and service capacity adequacy of the civil infrastructure systems necessitates continuous assessment and analyses, along with identification and implementation of infrastructure renewal, upgrade, and expansion projects. Major aspects of the water systems' focus in the near future are: (1) completion of the water systems' new SCADA system implementation; (2) upgrades to the metering and instrumentation; (3) hydraulic model conversions to InfoWater and InfoWorks ICM; (4) review and update of water systems' asset management database; (5) evaluation and adoption of new GIS tools to support water operations work; (6) continued condition assessment of water systems; (7) rehabilitation and/or construction of groundwater wells; and (8) construction of renewal and expansion projects. Immediate Opportunity: Job Title:Water Operations EngineerDepartment:Water Resources Job Code:4352, Facilities Engineer 2Grade:IExemption:ExemptLocation:315 Bonair Siding What you will do in this role: Work closely with the Associate Director, Water Shop Supervisor, and engineering team to help improve the water systems' operations, reliability and regulatory compliance. The water operations engineer will provide support in a variety assignments and projects including but not limited to:
preparing engineering analyses, technical memoranda, presentations and reports;
developing figures/exhibits and GIS maps;
performing hydraulic modeling on pressure and gravity water systems computer models;
monitoring and evaluating the performance of the water systems and working in cooperation with the water shop supervisor to recommend improvements and optimization of systems operations;
updating the standard operating procedures and facilities design guidelines for the water systems facilities;
completing implementation of the new cloud-based, SCADA system and training engineers and operators on using it;
continuing condition assessment of water systems, evaluating risks and consequences of failure of facilities, and identifying improvements needed;
performing field work and construction observations;
coordinating and communicating with project stakeholders within Stanford (students, faculty, and staff), regulatory agencies and the general public; and
managing projects as assigned.

To be successful in this role you must bring:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering discipline. Minimum five years of directly related general civil infrastructure that is focused on water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
Experience managing complex projects.
Professional approach, technical competence, initiative/creativity, excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills, and desire to work as a collaborative team player are all general attributes necessary for successfully working in this position and in the Stanford environment.
In addition to these general attributes, specific qualifications for this position are as follows:
Engineer-in-Training Certificate required.
California Professional Engineering license preferred.
Water Distribution Grade 2 certificate preferred.
Minimum of three years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience including hydraulic modeling, use of SCADA system for water systems operations, plans and specifications preparation, and project coordination required, five plus years preferred.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communications skills with a collaborative professional approach and communication style.
Proficiency in computer systems and software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and hydraulic modeling related software (e.g., InfoWater, InfoWorks ICM, etc.).
