This position exists to provide professional engineering development and maintenance support of the facilities and equipment for the Marvell Nanofabrication Laboratory. The laboratory is a unique 15,000 sq. ft. ultra-clean, particle-free facility that houses over 170 pieces of semiconductor process equipment which serve the research needs of more than 500 researchers.
This role involves professional engineering and engineering technician support as part of academic instructional lab and/or research projects and programs. Engineering activities include the design, construction, testing of experimental systems, operation of analytical systems, establishment of performance specifications, and documentation. Engineering Technicians may be assigned duties within a single discipline (e.g., electrical) or span a range of disciplines.
60% Under general supervision, Maintains, troubleshoots, and fixes semi-conductor processing machines to successfully perform repeatable standard processes to ensure lab member research can be completed.
20% Under general supervision, Designs, builds, tests and validates innovative modifications to complex semi-conductor processing machines to perform unprecedented research primarily in the area of atmospheric and low pressure chemical vapor deposition, plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition; and secondarily, reactive ion etch, inductively coupled plasma etch.
10% Organize and maintain lab spaces to optimally support lab equipment, process, and inventory needs. Maintain spare parts inventory.
10% Assist in the development of, and follow standard operating procedures and best known methods for safety and to prevent injuries. Practice and comply with safe working practices to assure personal safety and safety to the lab environment for colleagues and researchers. Understand and work within guidelines to protect the environment. Writes annual reports, detailed web-based instruction manuals, and creates CAD drawings.
This is a one-year contract
Working knowledge of engineering principles and methods in order to independently perform professional design work of limited scope and complexity.
Working knowledge necessary to begin independent application of principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments.
Organizational abilities and decision-making to prioritize work assignments.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative manner, to assist in identifying any challenges or barriers.
Strong familiarity with a range of computer systems and programs, from Windows and MS Office to PLCs and ladder programming.
A good understanding of basic electronics and signals.
A basic understanding of chemistry and chemical safety.
A working understanding of vacuum science and systems -pumps, vacuum gauging, specialized seals and plumbing components, leak detection.
A working understanding of high-purity gas delivery and gas control systems - gas manifolds, mass flow controllers, specialized seals and plumbing components.
Familiarity with broad range of micro/nanofabrication and semiconductor processing equipment.
Hands on experience with APCVD, LPCVD, PECVD thin film deposition equipment.
Hands on experience with RIE, DRIE, ICP, thin film etch equipment.
Bachelors degree in related area (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,Chemical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics.) or equivalent experience.
