The CRoPS project aims to develop crop plants that sequester more carbon via extensive root systems containing recalcitrant carbon polymers to fight climate change. A major component of this research is to conduct genetic and genomic analysis to identify and understand traits relevant for this project.
The Research Assistant III (RAIII) will work with other members of the CRoPS project to develop protocols for growing, selecting, and phenotyping selected transgenic crop lines.
The RAIII will conduct scientific research (bench work), scientific project management, and data analysis as needed. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, designing and overseeing all the cloning and sequencing experiments, keeping track of DNA constructs and transgenic lines, coordinating with greenhouse staff regarding projected space needs, overseeing the budget allocated to this project, and ordering the materials need for conducting all experiments. The RAIII will perform these tasks without close technical supervision. Rather, the RAIII will execute specific experiments that are broadly designed by a post doc or PI and must be able to carry out and analyze experimental results independently. The RAIII will oversee multiple projects, encompassing many research areas and direct Research Assistant I personnel while summarizing the progress, challenges, and future priorities to the PI as needed.
Bachelorâ™s degree in biological sciences or related field.
Masterâ™s degree or PhD in biological sciences or related field.
Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
Satisfactory completion of the Instituteâ™s background investigation.
Willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Must be willing to work independently.
Must have flexible schedule to support research needs.
