The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine of USC is seeking a talented Maintenance Technician to join its team. This individual will utilize their knowledge and expertise in facilities and maintenance activities to perform the corrective, preventive, and calibration work orders for our new facility in west Los Angeles. Â The individual will then document that work in our maintenance management system This individual will be a member of the Facilities and Operations team that is a diverse group of innovative and talented professionals who provide high quality facilities maintenance and management services in support of cancer treatment, education and research at USC. Facilities and Operations is committed to being fully responsive to the needs of faculty, students, staff and public, who are our customers.Â The facility will enable the Ellison Institute to house the clinic, leading-edge research laboratories, community learning, arts and education in a unique collaborative environment.
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and door hardware/security infrastructure equipment and systems of University facilities. The ideal/preferred candidate for the position of Maintenance Technician meets the following criteria:
High School Degree or equivalent preferred
5 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing trades.Â Demonstrated skills utilizing powered hand held tools and non-power tools.
Demonstrated experience performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of facilities equipment and systems within the University environment preferred
Knowledge and experience clearly documenting work performed in a maintenance management system (e. g. CMMS / FAMIS);
Successfully performs corrective and preventive maintenance work orders on mechanical, electrical, plumbing (M. E. P), fire protection, door hardware/security systems. Ensures that all preventive maintenance standard operating procedures (SOP s) are being adhered to, while following OSHA rules and regulations.
Assists in developing and performing maintenance and preventive maintenance job plans.
Assists in providing oversight of contractors performing assigned work on equipment and systems at the facility.
Determines and acquires materials, equipment and supplies needed to perform planned maintenance.
Mentors more junior technicians to assist them in advancing their skills and troubleshooting capabilities.
Interacts with client groups and outside contractors and vendors in a professional manner for facilities operations, maintenance, construction and renovation projects.
Monitoring the facility and equipment utilizing the Building Management System (BMS) and responding to alarm conditions in the required timely manner.Â This will at times require after hours response.
The work schedule for this position is: Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.; however, note that work schedules/hours may change at any time to meet business needs.Â On Call response required.

Preferred Education: High School Degree
Preferred Experience: 12 years experience in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing trades with demonstrated success performing troubleshooting and repair. Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
Preferred Field of Expertise: Thorough knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, Purified Water Systems (PUW), air compressors, boilers, process gas and other facilities equipment, systems and operations.

Minimum Education: High school or equivalentMinimum Experience: 5 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in Level I, II and III tasks. Successful work history. Thorough knowledge of the job components for completion of projects in trade areas e.g. methods, tools, materials and equipment. Thorough knowledge of standard safety practices andequipment and other requirements for workplace safety.
