Position Summary: The Director, Public Equity Investments plays an important role in the implementation of the tasks associated with the goals, responsibilities, and successful outcomes for the Office. As a member of the public equity investment group, the Director will assist in the selection, evaluation and ongoing assessment of external partners and investment opportunities. In addition, the Director will independently monitor and report on industry trends, and work with the Office of the CIO Risk Management Group to manage investment risks.
The Public Equity program totals more than $40 billion, consisting of Active and Passive Equity strategies. In consultation with the Managing Director and the Public Equity Team, the Director will serve a key role in the recommendation of external public equity managers, particularly fundamental long-only and long-biased Long/Short strategies. This includes sourcing, researching, evaluating,negotiating, structuring and ongoing assessment of these investments.
The Director will work collaboratively with the Public Equity team and not within a silo. In addition, the Director will also perform related industry, strategy and market research, to find opportunities that offer prospectively attractive risk adjusted returns. The Director will assist in the preparation of reports and presentations to stakeholders (eg, Board of Regents, endowments, foundations). Finally, the Director will work with the data, risk, legal and operations teams to ensure seamless monitoring of the portfolio. UC Investments is a small team that believes strongly in collaboration. In addition to supporting the Public Equity team, the Director will also collaborate with colleagues across the entire Team (e.g. Absolute Return, Fixed Income, Private Equity, Real Assets, Real Estate, Risk, Operations and Legal).

Job Close Date:
Job Requirements Bachelors degree and at least 10 years investment experience within a specific asset class, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possess highest ethical standards, passion for investing and strong work ethic.
Self-motivated with the confidence to actively form, debate and recommend non-consensus views.
At least 10 years of experience in monitoring and selecting external equity managers (especially fundamental strategies) and/or direct equity investing.
Demonstrated knowledge of capital markets, risk management, portfolio construction.
Ability to clearly articulate the investment decision process and results in a timely fashion.
Demonstrated proficiency at relationship management and the ability to build and utilize extensive personal network of industry contacts.
Project management skills in order to plan and manage projects in their entirety and ensure they are delivered on time; able to to independently prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
Strong technical/quantitative skills that can be applied to developing original models as well as reviewing the technical work of other team members.
Able to use compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of others.
Able to adapt approach and demeanor to match shifting demands and situations.
Able to effectively develop and deliver communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
Proactively asks informed and discerning questions both internally and externally to seek desired information or understanding.

Able to generate both qualitative and quantitative independent analysis. Required
MBA/CFA or a specialized professional designation and at least 8 years of experience within a specific asset class, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in strategies outside the US, particularly in Emerging Markets.
Operational due diligence experience.
Knowledge of the University's investment policies and processes; asset allocation guidelines and benchmarks.
Progressive experience with multiple asset classes.
