About Presidio Knolls School
PKS was founded on the idea that a progressive educational model can be combined with rigorous Mandarin immersion to create a vibrant, innovative school where children will thrive in a joyful environment. Since 2008, we have grown rapidly and established a unique position in the Bay Area’s independent school community. In the fall of 2020 the school will enroll over 400 students in preschool through eighth grade.
The progressive philosophy of Presidio Knolls School embraces kids as co-collaborators in their education. Our curriculum is project-based and interdisciplinary. Critical to this approach is hands-on, experiential instruction. As such, learning often takes place outside of the classroom. We also offer an extensive travel program; all middle school students complete projects in Asia each school year.
The Founding Members of the Middle School Faculty will partner with the Head of the Middle School to design and implement an engaging, interdisciplinary, project-based curriculum. The ideal candidate for this position will be have extensive experience as a middle school science teacher; will be interested in and supportive of bilingual and bicultural education and the quest to train engaged global citizens; will place the social-emotional lives if children at the center of their practice; will prioritize interdisciplinary instruction and team work; will understand how to design a program with rigor and flexibility; and, most of all, they will be excited to help co-author a new chapter in the life of an incredible school.
Co-author, coordinate, and implement a well-organized and focused curriculum aigned to Next Generation Science Standards.
Design assessments that make learning visible; document student
Teach assigned middle school classes.
Create a warm, caring, joyful learning
Create a classroom space that is differentiated, engaging, responsive, and
Participate in reflection and coaching
Travel with students on a 10-14 day trip to China each year.
Maintain open communication with
Must be able to start work in San Francisco around July 1, 2020 (for two months of planning meetings and curriculum development).
Advise a group of around 10 middle school students and work with them in a daily advisory block (focused on social emotional health and good decision making).
BA required, Master’s degree preferred.
Undergraduate focus on STEM.
Experience teaching middle school science classes.
Bilingual and bi-literate in Mandarin Chinese and English with native Mandarin Chinese
Demonstrated success inspiring middle school
Background in curriculum design, ideally including a project-based
Contagious enthusiasm and charisma; the ability to engage and inspire students, parents and

Experience teaching in an independent school setting
