Under the direction of the ESMS Program Manager, the Project Manager applies advanced technical project management frameworks, methods and techniques to manage and lead multiple concurrent projects of broad and diverse scope, size, impact, budget and / or project team size, with considerable impact to the organization.
Responsible for managing projects through all phases of the project lifecycle from origination/inception, initiation, planning, execution through closeout. Collaborates with colleagues and stakeholders to define objectives, scope, milestones, critical success factors and gates for moving from phase to phase. Works collaboratively with project teams, vendors, and project leadership. Develops, maintains and manages all project artifacts including charters, plans, schedules, risk/issue/decision logs, status reports, etc. utilizing industry and institutional standards, procedures and templates. Insists on presenting project status based solely on verifiable data rather than on anecdotal evidence or conjecture. Collaborates closely with the OIT Project Management Office of align activities with overall OIT goals and priorities.
Responsible for leading software development, implementation, and/or integration projects following a formal software development lifecycle (SDLC) including waterfall, agile or hybrid. Well versed in the respective SDLC phases/steps and gates to move between phases. Works with team to determine optimal SDLC for a given project based on objectives, scope, timeline and other factors.
Very strong communicator both verbally and in writing. Interacts with various levels of the organization in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner. Fosters good relationships with business units. Listens and understands client needs and concerns. Coaches and leads business and technical teams in the best practices and standards of project management. Understands the audience in which they are interacting and varies their communication style, documentation, presentations, information and tactics accordingly.
Tracks and drives forward all open and unresolved action items, risks and issues. Works collaboratively with project team members on tasks behind schedule and issues to make course corrections to keep tasks on schedule and maintain the critical path. Escalates project issues and risks as necessary to ensure timely completion of tasks.
The Enrollment Systems (ES) Unit within the UCI Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for the systems and applications used by six large, complex and mission critical business units: Financial Aid and Scholarships, Financial Services, Graduate Division, Office of the Registrar, Summer Session, and Undergraduate Admissions. The support provided includes daily operational support, monitoring, incident management and troubleshooting; new development, maintenance, upgrades and enhancements to a diverse group of complex in-house developed applications, systems, integrations, data extracts and reports; and support for third-party software products and their integration with other systems.
Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
Requires ability to assess campus or Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.

Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant IT Project Management experience with BA/BS, or two (2) to three (3) years of relevant experience with MA/MS, or equivalent combination of education and experience in Project Management in a technical and/or business and/or Higher Education environment.
High proficiency using Microsoft Project to create and update project schedules including dependencies, critical path, and required views.
Intermediate to advanced skills in MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Visio.
Expert leading colleagues and stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, milestones, and critical success factors and gates for moving from phase to phase.
Experienced as a project manager for software development, implementation and integration projects through a formal Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Experience determining optimal SDLC for a given project, waterfall, agile or hybrid, based on project objectives, scope, resources, timelines, etc.
Expert in building project plans, schedules, establish project timelines, defining milestone, and deliverables in a business and/or higher education and/or technology environment.
Expert in compiling and presenting project status in varying ways to meet the needs and to be understandable by the intended audience.
Expert at leading meetings with cross-functional (business users and technical staff) teams.
Expertise to identify, document, manage and resolve project issues and risks.
Experience managing project and scope changes through a formal change management process.
Experience working in a Higher Education or public sector.
Conceptual understanding of current technologies, and/or DevOps methodologies to plan and communicate effectively with project team and sponsors.
Experience with business analysis and documentation (e.g., build detailed business process flows in Microsoft Visio).
Knowledge and experience to plan, manage and execute complex multi-systems production cut-over
Experience using JIRA to run agile projects.
