The Director of Student Center & Events Services is responsible for the visionary and strategic leadership in the planning, operation and management of the student center department, which includes 185,000 gross square feet, $19 million operating budget, 63 full-time employees, and 250 student employees. The incumbent oversees all operations of the student center in accordance with the university's policies and procedures and ensure proper safety and security for the users of the facility. Responsible for directing all functions including facility management, event management, financial management, marketing, personnel management and planning. Resolve escalated issues arising from operations and require coordination with other departments.
Master's degree or higher in higher education or related field with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Communication Skills: Advanced communication skills including strong writing skills, interpersonal effectiveness, political acumen, and ability to assess correctly organizational interactions and sensitivities. Comfortable with public speaking and program presentation. Ability to interface at all levels with campus officials. Budget Experience: Executive level experience in planning, developing and managing a multi-million dollar budget for a multi-functional organization. Knowledge of financial principles related to accounting, budget preparation, debt service, bond indentures and financial feasibility. Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to envision, guide, mentor and motivate others to meet unit, organization, Student Affairs and campus goals. Demonstrated experience in managing and operating a large administrative unit. Critical Thinking and Decision Making: Experience assessing situations by conducting research, and soliciting feedback to provide quality programs and services. The ability to make sound, quick decisions with limited information. Extensive experience utilizing problem solving skills. Management: Well-grounded in management principles and best practices specifically designed to produce optimum operational effectiveness and efficiency. Demonstrated ability to envision/design, develop, and implement innovative and creative solutions to achieve continuously improved services. Maximize utilization of facilities resources and assets. Experience and adept at interacting with constituents who are diverse in characteristics such as age, education level, race, gender identity and expression, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally- competent manner. Business: Demonstrated knowledge in business administration and operations. Building/renovation: Demonstrated experience in building maintenance and construction of Student Center or similar facilities. Contract management: Demonstrated experience in contract management and negotiations. Conferences: Demonstrated experience of conference operations. Supervisory Skills: Expertise in developing quality supervisory relationships with staff. Promoting individual and staff development while providing leadership in the attainment of organizational goals and outcomes. Developing Collaborative Partnerships: Possess skills necessary to develop mutually beneficial and synergistic relationships with campus colleagues.
