Incumbent will be employed by the School of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine and work under the supervision of the Physicians of the Neurology program. Under direction, guided by the Committee on Interdisciplinary Practice (CIDP), and in collaboration with the Department of Neurology faculty, the Physician Assistant provides direct care through physical assessment and medical intervention to patient's neurological illnesses. Will perform specific neurological examinations and general physical examinations based on advanced nurse practice training and advanced academic and clinical training in the field of neurology. Incumbent will have additional management responsibilities in that the incumbent will oversee, in collaboration with the Alzheimer /Memory Disorder Clinic Manager and Medical Director, Alzheimer /Memory Disorder Clinical operations at various locations. The Physician Assistant will act as an expert clinical resource and mentor for clinic staff. Will work collaboratively with the research staff in the development and conduct of research as well as the dissemination of research findings through written publication, professional meetings, and community programs. Will be responsible for the creation and revision of such standardized procedures and be accountable for maintaining the policies and protocols delegated by the CIDP and Medical Director of the Medical Staffing Department. Incumbent will work closely with the Medical Director to assist with the collaboration with other services and departments for the treatment of our Neurology patients. May participate in teaching activities, under the guidance of the faculty of Neurology, with students and members of the community.
Licensure through the California Physician Assistant Board of the Medical Board of California as a physician assistant. Applicant must have completed a physician assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date and meet current Medicare requirements for billing. Applicant must hold a current DEA Registration with schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4 and 5 and State issued prescribing authority (if applicable). Evidence of completion of Controlled Substances Education Course that meets requirements pursuant to California Code of Regulations Sections 1399.610 and 1399.612. PAs who have completed a one-time Controlled Substances Education Course may order or furnish a Schedule II drug pursuant to the Practice Agreement without patient-specific advance approval. National board certification at the time of initial appointment (beginning August 2020). Current BLS certification from an AHA approved course. Current ACLS, PALS, NRP certification from an AHA approved course or ATLS certification from an ACoS approved course, if appropriate to work location/patient population. Applicant must provide documentation of provision of care (# and type of cases/procedures performed) during the past 24 months, representative of the scope and complexity of the privileges requested.
Experience with neurology patients.
