Biomolecular Engineering: Associate Project Scientist, Protein Engineering (Open until filled. Apply by 5/28/2020)
The Department of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an Associate Project Scientist. Under the direction of Dr. Rebecca DuBois, the Associate Project Scientist will engage in the planning and execution of research that uses protein engineering and structural biology approaches to understand the mechanisms of human virus infection and the mechanisms of protective human immunity. Research activities include, but are not limited to, the construction of DNA plasmids, the expression of recombinant virus antigens and antibodies in diverse cell lines, multi-step protein purification and quality analyses, and the generation of transgenic mammalian cell lines. This position will require the incumbent to exercise good time management and problem-solving skills; perform and document research in an organized, methodical, and analytical manner; contribute to writing and data analysis for publications; and work both independently and contribute to the training of students at both the graduate and undergraduate level. SALARY Commensurate with qualifications and experience
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS A Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Virology, or related scientific field at the time of application, and at least two years of biological wet lab research experience after obtaining the degree.
POSITION AVAILABLE As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.
DURATION OF POSITION Initial appointment will be part-time at 50% time for 1 year. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.
